She was the girl who wanted to dance
Who loved to dance
Who wanted to live to dance
One by one
The barriers rose before her
And each she tore down
Pirouetted around
Leaped over
But when her day of truimph
Arrived she looked around and
Realized
The people she had not met
The people she did not know
Suddenly
Surrounded Encroached Imposed on
her
Like Shadows ready to
Swallow Engulf Consume
her
The waving arms once
hailing heckled
her
The roses and bouquets once
appraising assailed
her
And her Feet that had never
finally failed
her
And there was
nothing
